The Trusted Exchange Framework and Common AgreementSM (TEFCASM) establishes a universal governance, policy, and technical floor for nationwide interoperability; simplifies connectivity for organizations to securely exchange information to improve patient care, enhance the welfare of populations, and generate health care value; and enables individuals to gather their healthcare information.

Information Blocking
Information blocking is a practice by a healthcare “actor,” except as required by law or specified in an information blocking exception, that is likely to interfere with the access, exchange, or use of electronic health information.

U.S. Core Data for Interoperability (USCDI)
ONC’s Health IT Certification Program requires the use of the United States Core Data for Interoperability (USCDI), a standardized set of health data classes and constituent data elements, including clinical notes, allergies and intolerances, laboratory test results, and medications for nationwide, interoperable health information exchange.

Health IT Certification
The ONC Health IT Certification Program is a voluntary program that helps ensure that current and future technologies are developed with interoperability in mind. A list of certified health IT is maintained through the Certified Health IT Products List.

LEAP in Health IT
LEAP in Health IT projects tackle the creation of new standards, methods, and tools to improve care delivery and advance research capabilities. The LEAP in Health IT program addresses fast emerging challenges that inhibit the development, use, and advancement of interoperable health IT.
