Individuals Use of Technology to Track Health Care Charges and Costs

Overall, 1 in 3 individuals tracked health care charges and costs with a computer, smartphone, or other electronic means in the past 12 months. About 4 in 10 individuals filled out paperwork related to their health care or made health care appointments online. Over one-third communicated with their provider online, while 3 in 10 individuals communicated with their health care provider via text message. Just over 4 in 10 individuals looked for a health care provider online.

Results are available for "Communicating with Health Care Provider" questions and Track health care charges and costs from HINTS 5, Cycle 2, 2018, but are not statistically different from 2017. The remaining questions were not part of this cycle of HINTS. Future results may be published from the next cycle of HINTS.
